Responsible for all phases of design planning and execution on medium to large size Data Center or Mission Critical engineering projects of significant complexity. Responsible for the entire design. Supervises engineering and design personnel directly or through subordinate leaders on a project by project basis. May serve as a proposal manager to the projects to which they will be assigned. Support business development activities through client meetings, business marketing events and proposal support
Develops an integrated set of functional/discipline design management and execution plans (i.e., execution schedule, organisation plan, work plan, task workflow, QA/QC plan, technical review plans). Supports the project manager in the completion of project plans and documents (i.e – project execution plan, budget and forecast planning, communications plan, project audits and customer satisfaction surveys). Manages the application of appropriate coordination and implements regular reviews and controls to monitor design progress.
Develops project schedules and resource plans and requirements for all aspects of the design. Managing, coordinating and delivering technically challenging projects on time, within budget and to the desired quality. Working with and managing a single or multi-functional design team responsible for delivering projects in accordance with client’s requirements. Working with and managing sub consultants as part of the design team for a successful project delivery.
Coordinating design activities across various disciplines within a multi discipline design team. Comfortable with interfacing with the Client and other design team members regarding the production of information in line with agreed deliverables. Understanding and managing changes to scope, budget, and programme. Identifying risks and opportunities and contributing to the project risk and opportunities register.
Escalating any matters that could pose a potential contractual/commercial risk to senior management at the earliest opportunity. Management of various internal disciplines and external sub consultants’ costs/resource against proposed budget targets. Progress reporting and monitoring progress in line with project KPI’s
Preferably Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent qualification with experience working in Building Services for Data Centres and Mission Critical projects. 10+ years of relevant Design Engineering experience. 1+ years of experience directly related to data center or high-density cooling designs. Market sector experience in Mission Critical or Data Centres preferred
Good interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and in writing. A hard working and flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses good attention to detail, is reliable, proactive and shows initiative whilst able to keep cool under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines. Ability to effectively manage and motivate individuals and teams. Experienced at preparing Fees aligned to Scope Definition, Project Execution Plans, Change Control and Client & Stakeholder Engagement.
Familiar with BIM and has an understanding of 3D modelling tools for design and coordination purposes and the associated Information attributes that can be assigned and managed within the Model. Self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team. A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and across disciplines. Is familiar with the issues and management surrounding project delivery from multiple design centers, including the use of outsourcing functions. Has a knowledge of the Professional services models for delivery for complex projects and the design stages and approval requirements applicable for various industry sectors. A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team. Ability to adapt to different cultures and working environments to build rapport with clients and team members alike. Be available to travel and work away from home.
